There are quite a few convertors out there, USB to RS232, some seem to work better than others.

Hi guys I've just purchased a new laptop and discovered that it hasn't got a serial port so I can't transfer programs via rs232 cable, is there such a cable out there that will allow me to do so via USB port please help #inapickle

You didn't say what controller, but I always tend to use the 3 wire RS232 cable, with the 4-5, 6-8-20 jumpered on the 25 pin D socket, (or equivalent on 9 pin).
