hello don
thank you for getting back to me i am use mach3 mill, proge cad 2009 smart.
draftsight and solidworks E-drawin. so far.
Mark, I assume you downloaded the Joes 2006 group of files. If so, then there are several formats included, dwg, stl, etc. What are you using to try and open the dwg files? Maybe you could tell us which files you are trying to open and then we can help.
Don
hello don
thank you for getting back to me i am use mach3 mill, proge cad 2009 smart.
draftsight and solidworks E-drawin. so far.
Mark, Draftsight or most any CAD program should open the DWG files. What message are you getting when you try to open a DWG file?
Don
don
the Proge cad opens them fine but i can,t get it to tell me the size of the part.
Mark, CAD programs don't automatically show dimensions on the drawings. However, if you open a DWG file in Proge, it should tell you the dimensions of a part just by hovering your mouse (crosshairs) over a point, ask for dimensions, then hover over a second point and it should tell you what the distance is.
If you are going to have the files printed/plotted, the printing/plotting programs should size them appropriately. If you are just going to have someone cut them on a CNC machine, no dimensions are necessary, the CNC CAM program should generate the right sizes just from the drawings.
What are you wanting to do, have them printed full size and use as templates, cut via CNC, or something else?
Don
hello don
yes need them printed out full size so i can lay them out on the MDF and cut them out my hand
mark
Then, I suggest you take the files to Kinkos or some place similar, explain what you need and have them print them out full size on their printer/plotters.
Don
DON i got 3 pages 8x11 to print out for me.i have been messing with cad
for 4 to 5 hrs. now and i think you know thats it,s all new to me
thank you sir
just got too save it on a CD again thank you DON i will keep you up to speed mark
Has anyone tried the BIGPRINT program from Matthias Wendel of http://www.woodgears.ca/bigprint fame?
I have not tried it, though I have purchased several of his plans. I was wondering if it would work to make hardboard templates I would use to trim out the pieces with a router (need to build quite a few jigs I think, too, to do this by hand)
I too have purchased several of his plans and the gear generator software and was very satisfied
hello to you 2 sirs for the help
i do need it. do you sirs know if big print will open like DWG files and more
here cnczone i have gotten more help then any were.i am a green newbie to cnc
thank you again

If the pdf doesn't work, here is a link to a thread in this forum for all the parts (nested) in dxf.

It depends on how you're going to build. If you have access to a CNC machine to cut out the parts, you can use the .dxf files. If you are going to cut them out by hand, the nested files (in either .pdf OR .dxf) aren't really going to help you.
Regarding cutting them out by hand, I have seen people just transfer the measurements to mdf, and cut them out. Me, I hope to make templates & jigs so it will all be easily repeatable, and the most accurate.
I never liked the .dxf files, instead have studied the .pdfs that are available. I also bought the plans that Kelvoden massaged & tweaked, which are supposed to make it easier to make the parts manually (non-CNC cut).
hello
ABqJohn
I also bought the plans that Kelvoden massaged & tweaked can you send the pians you talked about to me.

The links are back through this thread. You just have to take the time to go through it all.
I *did* find a sketchup model of the machine in post #732 - http://www.cnczone.com/forums/234068-post732.html. Once you are familiar with Sketchup (a free download from google - Google SketchUp), you can choose View/Face Style/X-ray, and get a GREAT x-ray view of the machine. I think it really helps clarify how the machine goes together and how the parts all fit together.
If you've already purchased Kelvoden's mods, you should be set, and I assume you are planning on making the parts by hand?
No wait - just found a download link that appears to be the all-in-one zip for the plans - a bunch of different formats as well as the manual:
