Question Which Router / Spindle to use?

We are looking at getting the Probotix X90 and need help choosing the proper spindle to use.

The machine apparently does NOT come with a router... just a holder for a router... so I need some input as to which is the best to get and why.

This is what is offered by the manufacturer.
    • Bosch Colt PR20EVSK
    • Dewalt DWP611
    • Porter-Cable 450
    • Rigid 2401
    • Kress 530/800/1050

We would really like at least a 24x24 size bed... but the price jumps from $1500 to $3200 when you go from the 18x18 model. Are there some other machines we should be looking at in addition to this manufacturer? Is there a reason we should make the jump to the larger machine to begin with? (We are thinking that once this machine pays for its-self, we can upgrade.)

This is the machine we are looking at: Fireball X90

This is the next larger size: Fireball Comet

So, what do we want for the cutting tool on this machine?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Default Re: Which Router / Spindle to use?

From experience I can tell you the Porter Cable is not the greatest. I burned out two of them. I am now using the Kress 800 and am very happy with it. Depending on what you plan on doing with your cnc, the side pressure on the lightweight routers cannot handle much depth and travel speed at the same time.

    Hope this helps.
