    Default About Sieg SX2.7

    Hi everyone,

There is Sieg SX2.7 milling machine, did anyone know or use it? any comments when comparing with SX3...

It has XY travels of 395mmx190mm (15.5"x7.5") which is more than SX3: 400mmx145mm (15.7"x5.7"), at least more in Y direction, but lighter in weigh, only 101kg
    Its power is 750W vs SX3 1000W

    Thanks,

Ive been wondering about a comparison like this myself. Specifically between the LMS/HiTorque 5500 (upgraded Sieg SX2.7 variant) and the DROPros Weiss VM25L (upgraded Sieg SX3 variant). Im guessing the two Im looking at are just too new and not many own them yet.

We have been working on designing a kit for the SX2.7.
I am doing this with the LMS 5500.
After tearing into it, I'm really liking the machine.
After converting an X3, I think I like this machine more.
It just seems to me to be put together better.

This is the "LittleMachineShop HiTorque 5500" and I, too, like the "numbers" of it. (750W direct drive, still small enough to fit where bigger machines don't.)
Main draw-back might be that the spindle is only rated at 2000 rpm, which is even less than the 2800 rpm you get on the SX2.

Does anyone know of a CNC kit for this one? CNCFusion doesn't seem to have one.
Also, what will go wrong if I simply bolt stepper motors to the hand wheels, instead of using a new ball screw kit?

We just finished making a new kit for the SX2.7.
We will have it up for sale on our web site Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

How convenient! I'll be sure to check it out.
Is it a full kit (screws, fittings, steppers, drivers, power supply, etc)?

I picked up one of these machines in December and came across this post shortly after looking for more info on the machine. When HeavyMetal posted they were working on a kit I contacted them right away to check on ETA.

Since I assume i'm one of only a few who got one of these and have it converted, and probably the first to test out the HeavyMetalCNC kit I thought I'd post a few quick pics of the machine so people can get a look at it:

So far everything has honestly been great, install of the kit was smooth and the machine has been running great. As a reference to others I ended up going 48v and i'm running 570 oz/in NEMA 23 on X&Y and 1200 oz/in NEMA 34 on Z which is direct drive as you can see in the pics. This seems to be plenty of power as I havn't had any issue with missed setup outside of crashing the machine into the end of its travel or something stupid along those lines....Perfect in any real world cutting.

I have the SX2.7 and i love the little machine. Mine was an upgrade from the x2.

*The machine is nice, quiet and smooth (compared to my geared x2).
    *The torque is great.
*50mm Facemill is no problem also.
    * Tapping function is also very good.

My only issue is the spindle speed and sometimes after alot of use the spindle turns off and on restart goes backwards :S

Im currently converting mine for CNC with ATC. Controlled with a Masso
