Default Good tool for solid surface

    Hi,

It is for my DIY CNC with a (8000 to 25000 rpm router)

I tried several type of cutters and what works the best so far is a 4mm chinese 2 flutes upcut with TiN coating. Helix looks 45deg. This cutter performed better than my carbide 1/4 2f upcut spiral or straight cutter.

Since there's no such thing as a "cutter datasheet" for chinese cutters, I set my chipload to 0.005 and the result is ok; not stellar but ok.

What would be the best tool to cut solid surface (Corian) ?

    Thanks

I cut a lot of Corian with a Vortex 4233.

Also set rpm to 14000 and feed rate to 12m pm

Thanks thanks both of you for the tips.

I have some low helix upcut and compression cutters. I will do some testing tonight.

My machine can only cut at 8m/min (315IPM). I assume I should I adjust the rpm to keep the same kind of chipload?

Imo, there's no reason to use a downcut or compression bit with solid surface, because you don't have edge chipping issues.

If you can cut at 300ipm, I'd start at 14-15,000 rpm. 1/4" depth with a 1/4" bit.

Yeah your probably right, I didnt seem to get much chipping with 100percent acrylic solid surface or Corian I know a 2flute 1/4inch is pretty much the cutter to use, but with modified solid surface I did get a lot of chipping especially on rebates. This is just my experience.
