So I’m hoping to maybe do a program on laptop carry to shop and plug it in? We r looking to spend 5k or so, just something Decent and reliable. And advice is welcomed.

I'm not going to try to advise you on a router to purchase.

I also have a 30x40 shop that is metal and before we installed the wired connection we used a range extender to get sort of OK internet in the shop. Probably 140 feet or so from the wireless router in the house (also metal sided) to the range extender in the shop. We put the range extender just next to the man door and had a signal even with the door shut, better with it open.

Yes, you could do the CAM work on a laptop and carry it to the shop, or you could use a USB drive to take the program to the CNC computer. I do that all the time, I work at my desk then can use my USB drive to transfer the files.
