Whats the lowest the voltage will dip to ?
Physically how big is the motor ?
Hi
As anyone used a Viper drive on a battery driven application. It will be a 48 volt LiFePO4 battery pack the motor is rate 48 volts 14.45 continuous current no peak current is given. Continuous torque is 172 oz-in peak is 1250 oz-in. This application will have a good bit of regenerative braking as its position a load of up to 6000 lbs.

It's my understand you do not want to drop voltage below 90% of operating voltage of a Lithium battery or you will damage the battery. So it that case were looking at about 43 volts.
Charging Voltage: 60-61 Volts
Charging Current: <5 Amps
Rated Discharging Amperage: 20 Amps
Max Continuous Discharging Amperage: 40 Amps
Maximum Discharging Current: 60 Amps
Discharging Cut-off Protection: 50 Amps
The motor is 394 continous watt motor They do not give a max Wattage. Below is a link to the motor.

peak torque/torque constant = peak amps
1250/11.9 ~ 105A!

What is the application ? What load is causeing the big braking load ? If its for a vehicle, that requires a special design.

Larry:
It is a vehile if that what you want to call it. It will be moving pallets in a deep rack storage system. Were looking at max of 6000 lbs but most of the time it will be more like 2000 Lbs.
Matt:
Add a 79 to 1 planetary gear box to that and your now at 592 In-lbs of torque continous torque. Not super accel or deccel but I'm not looking for that I just need to move the pallet and this whole system need to be under 5 inches tall.

I make that 849 lb-in?
Operate above the continuous torque at your own risk, very easy to cook the motor at that current if the drive allows it.

Your correct on calculated torque, I was giving the manufactors Continous gear box output torque from there data sheet. This will not be running continous on top of that. If the hieght was not an issue I would go much larger on the motor 56c motors don't fit in a 4" window.

Please enlighten me on what makes a vehicle and why it needs a special design? I have to get the parts ordered in the next few week for this project. I'm needing to nail down the drives.
