    Default Viper 200 frustration!

I'm trying to get the fault output to work on my Viper 200's.
I can get the remote flashing LED to work, but nothing from the "stop out" connection. I need this to tell Mach 3 that there is a drive in fault.
I assume my drives are the latest batch as they're not quite the same as the pics in the manual, there's a jumper block next to the Stop out connector, but no documentation to tell you whether you need to install jumpers? (see attached pics)
Viper's website has been down for a couple of weeks now & I've had no response to email.
I've tried to ring, but got the answerphone. I'm in the UK so not sure if the time difference means I'm calling at the wrong time.
    Getting quite frustrated now

The output doesn't pull low, eh ? What value of pullup resistor do you have ?

What voltage do you measure on the output pin ?

The pin header is just extension of input signals.

    Hi Larry,
I have 5v on the middle pin of the 3, I can't measure anything on the stop out pin & I can't detect any change of state.
If I connect an LED across the same as the flash output, I don't get anything.
    Resistor is 470Ω

When you say 'can't measure anything', does that mean zero volts ?

Also when you connect a LED thru a series resistor to the +5Volts, does it glow or not glow ? Be sure the long lead on the LED is on the Pos side.

Its possible its a firmware problem (since yours were early 2nd gen )

I have connected the LED & resistor accross the 5v & the stop out pin and it doesn't glow.
I am at the point where I can run the machine, but have no way of telling if a drive faults out. I may use the flash output to e-stop Mach 3, at least it's going to limit any damage.
If it's a firmware problem, is there any way of changing it here, or do you have to do it yourself?

Sorry I forgot to answer about the voltage.
If I put my meter accross the 5v & stop out pins I get 0.4v. It doesn't change if there is a fault output or not.

Tried to reply to your pm, got this error:

Larken has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.

My reply to your pm therefore is:

    I tried that,
    it's ok
I tried several times to be sure & it's ok every time.

I am running with the flash output connected to my breakout board to put Mach 3 in estop.
Not ideal but at least I can run.

Do you have the drives running your machine (even though the error line isn't working ) ?

Yes the drives are working, but I have the fault line as an e stop, which means if I go near my current limit I get a 3 flash fault, which estops my machine.

I am also experiencing random e-stops, sometimes when it stops for a tool change. When I check the drives there is no fault showing.
As this machine has been running well for 2 years on Gecko drives, I can only assume it is the fact that I am using the fault line on the Vipers as an e-stop.
Is it possible that this line could randomly give an "output"? Normally this would only light an LED, so it wouldn't show up as a problem.

    Hi Larry,
sorry I've been away from work & only just had a chance to fit the drives.
I'll post the old drives back this week.
    Thanks for your help
    Tim.
