I keep hearing that you should never grind on a CNC machine that is not specifically a grinding machine because it will destroy its precision. But I have never heard actual experience proving this. On the contrary, some people say it's perfectly safe as long as coolant filtering is working properly - the main difference between a grinding machine and a milling machine is just the spindle and how fast it rotates.

So, how much is this an issue with "modern" machining centers? Are they sufficiently protected against grinding particles? If not, what kind of $$$ are we talking about to make it "dust-proof"?
