I have a Chinese cnc machining centre with Fanuc series oi mate and want to add a 4th & 5th axis trunnion to the machine.
It already has a rotary axis so I know the machine has a drive board for a 4th axis, but what about a 5th?

Some trunnion manufacturers say that no additional drive boards are needed, but how does this work? How can the control talk to the 5th axis without a drive board? If it can work with no additional board, will it be a proper closed-loop system with positional feedback, or open loop? Will the control properly recognise the 5th axis, as in set backlash, speed, and acceleration of the 5th C axis?

I also wonder if, providing it is closed loop, will the machine be able to move in all 5 axis at once. I understand there will likely be no tool point control or compensation like a true 5 axis. But will it move all axes at one and in sync?

Really need help with this, it's confusing me
