Copper/ Alu. CNC under 1000??

Looking to get into CNC and wanting to build a machine that can do Copper and Aluminum with tolerances to .001 of an inch. I've been doing some research and before I continue I'd like to know if it's possible to build something like this for less then $1000??

Any feedback would be great!

Maybe - if it was really small, and you found a great deal on the components.

So looking at the parts it looks like the spindle would cost the most, and to get that kind of accuracy you need to have a very solid design to reduce any chatter/ vibrations. Can I achieve that accuracy with stepper motors or would I need servos?

Within reason you can get pretty much any accuracy you want with steppers. It's the mechanics and components of the machine itself, and how it's built, that will determine the amount of flex or chatter/vibration that will occur.

I think it would be hard to do what you want for less then $2k-$2.5k. More importantly, do you have a machine shop of your own, (lathe, mill, etc), or the ability to produce the machine parts to the level of precision necessary for the specs you want the cnc machine to be able to produce, or you need to get a 3rd party to produce those?

Also, materials like copper work harden depending on the machine design and feeds/speeds, cutters used, etc, so this can be pain to machine in many cases and must be taken into account with the machines design.
