Default Boxford TLC 125 cnc Lathe and GrblGru ?

    Hi GRBLGRU

Just love the work you are doing on this software.

I am restoring an old Boxford TLC 125 cnc lathe, I have rplaced all of the electronics and it's now running with an Arduino Uno with GRBL 1.1 and a couple of drivers.
Using UGS I can make it jog and write simple Gcode to drive the machine.

But I can't make it work when I try to use GRBLGru to drive it, the problem is it is reverse to the normal manual lathe.
The spindle goes round the opposite way and the tool is at the back of the work.
So my question is, how would I set up GrblGru to work with this lathe?

I guess I could take an existing model that comes with the program and adapt it, but how do I ensure that the simulation and Gcode produced is correct?

Hope you can give me some advise.

I like your machine very much.
But I can hardly estimate the effort to import the machine into the programme. But I would like to try. Maybe it is possible to achieve a solution by a simple mirroring or rotation.
But you have to give me time for it.

Do you have any 3D data (Iges, Step or STL) from the machine ?

    Hi GrblGru

Thanks for the reply, I think the existing machine you have called My_Lathe could work very well.
All it needs is a longer cross slide and the tool to be positioned at the rear so that it cuts the back face of the work piece.
The chuck would need to rotate anticlockwise ( backwards to normal ).
Then the Gcode output would have to match that.
It would be great if you could make it work.

I will be teaching young engineers ( 13 to 16 years old ) the basics of CNC and Gcode on the machine
To be able to use your software to simulate it before they get let loose on the real machine would be fantastic.

I have just uploaded a new beta version V4.7.5. In it there is now the first try of a "Boxford" machine, which I have created by changing the model "MyLathe".
Nevertheless, I hope that the functionality of your machine can be simulated. Please check if this is ok and let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you that looks really good.
I have just checked it out and the Boxford machine comes in upside down ?

If I manually rotate it all of the jogging controls move in the correct directions.
I won't be able to test on the real machine until next week.

Just to nitpick, the base of the machine only really needs to just a bit wider than the main bed of the lathe.

Thank you so much for doing this, it will really help the young engineers to understand how things work

    Hi GrblGru
How can I make your new model stay the right way up when it loads ?

The view should actually only be upside down the first time. Then you can change the view with the mouse orbit function as you want it.
When you exit the programme, this view should be saved and reappear when you restart.

I have just uploaded a new version V4.7.6. I have also changed your machine in it. Hope you like it.

    Hi

Love the new machine, yes the view does stay after saving a project.
A couple of things are still not working for me.
1: I can't get a lathe tool on the new machine, how do I do this?
2: When you click on any of the cube icons ( top, side, 3D ) the view reverts to the upside down version, how can I fix this?

Thanks again for your work on this
