Which CADCAM package?
Hi there, I’m starting my own machine shop and would like some advice as to what CADCAM package to buy? I have an old version on Turbocad Pro that I use in my shed at home which is pretty poor to be honest but I’m not sure what the latest version is like? At work we use Intelicad for 2D stuff which also pretty poor. We use Bobcad for Cam stuff but it seems substandard also, although I don’t use it as we also have Fusion as a replacement for Bobcad which I haven’t had the time to get any good at yet. Fusion is also pretty expensive for the amount we use it. What I need is an easy to use and not too expensive program that I can do 2D drawings on and make 3D models for illustration and a Cam function for the rare occasion that I need to generate a program that the machine control can’t. Any advice is welcome. Thanks for your time.

Honestly the price of Fusion is not expensive at all for what it does. It's great value for money. You truly get what you pay for. Toolpaths in Fusion have been reliable for me. 3D Modelling has been great. it's done everything that I've asked it to. And well 2D Drawings it does, and it's always improving, and they are willing to listen to users in regards to their improvements.Originally Posted by GM CNC

Are you expecting your new shop to turn over less than £100k a year? If so, Fusion is free unless you need the generative design features.

Even $495 a year is cheap I think.

Thanks for your replies guys. My boss told me it cost him £10,000 for a 3 year licence so $495 a year is very reasonable. Sold. Thanks again.

For an inexpensive and easy to use 2.5D drawing/machining package, have a look at SimplyCam from MR-Soft Nc Software Tools
Does a lot for a little :-)
