Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
@The_Dream_shed
Thanks. Of course I have it on my todo list.
But right now, I just can't find the time. But I promise I won't forget it.
@swisscheese
It works for me without errors and I have not yet received any negative feedback from other users.
Error 15 is an error message from GRBL. Are you sure you have GRBL version V1.1 ?
Does the error appear every time the button is pressed or only sometimes?
I'll make you a video tomorrow to show how it should work.
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
Release notes V3.29
A new version V3.29 is available for free download on my dropbox. -> bit.ly/2xF1KJ8_GrblGru_Release
Most of the changes concern the lathe operation. The coordinate system has been adapted to the standardized XZ system.
Creating jobs now works in the same way as when milling. Now also templates for turning chamfers and radii have been added.
Suggestions for other useful templates are welcome.
When milling, internal geometry data can now also be exported as SVG and G-Code can be imported as data.
I also started to include OpenSCAD.
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
When I type $$ I get an unhandled exception and says "port closed"
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
************** Exception Text **************
System.InvalidOperationException: The port is closed.
at System.IO.Ports.SerialPort.Write(String text)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnTextChanged(EventAr gs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.TextBoxBase.WmReflectCommand( Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.TextBox.WndProc(Message& m)

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
No. I need the settings from your GRBL. I will compare your Grbl settings with my Grbl settings. .
But you can read these settings with any program that can do this. Universal Gcode sender, GrblPanel, GrblGru ....and many more
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
To tell you the truth, I don't have any idea what's going on right now. Your settings look fine.
I sent you a PM with my email address. If you are still interested in using GrblGru, I ask you to provide me with as much information as possible about the occurrence of the error. Some screenshots or better a short video, where you can see the controller window while Grbl is ready and the error occurs while sending the jogg command.
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
Sorry, I should have seen it sooner. You have activated the "soft limit" monitoring. $20 = 1
I didn't do that because I didn't install limit switches and I don't use homing. Set $20 to 0. Then It'll work.
Because I also control larger machines I simply used 1000 mm path in the jog commands. I have to change that in the future.
Thank you for your patience.
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
So you are going to eventually get to adding inches into your software (which is pretty sweet by the way). One other question that I have for you is this. I use Fusion360 for my CAM fork. that's what I do most of my work in for modeling. When I output the .nc file using the FANUC post processor, it (like on a normal CNC lathe) outputs "X" and "Z". is there a way to get the program to read Y as X and X as Z?
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
Sorry, Imperial mode is at the top of my todo list. But it's a lot of work, and right now I just don't have time to do it.
Since version V3.29 I have adapted the coordinate system in the lathe mode to the standard coordinate system of the lathes. (Z and X axis)
So it should be possible to process the Fusion GCode without any problems. Let me know if something doesn't work.
In this case the GCode file would be very helpful.
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
@GrblGru
That was it - finally got is going! Thanks. Did not cut anything yet. On a dry run the steppers sounded a little rougher than usual - is there some setting to check?
Re: GrblGru: Free CAM and 3D-Simulation for mills and lathes
Thanks for your feedback.
The movement itself is controlled by GRBL during jogging operation. You can try changing the acceleration value. ($120 - $122)
GrblGru only sets the feed rate. You can change it in the GrblGru settings. (see pic) Also note that the SHIFT, CTRL and ALT keyboard keys can be used to modify the speed.
Jogging with pressed SHIFT key = feed rate * 10
Jogging with pressed CTRL key = feed rate / 10
Jogging with pressed ALT key = feed rate / 100
