    Thanks for your advice. This seems to be a good idea for a quick workaround.
    But I think there are a lot of other things to consider.
    For example, the dimensions of the workpieces should already match the dimensions of the machine.
    Also the current display should be displayed in inches.

    I have changed the formatting of the input values so that now several decimal places can be used.
    Hopefully this will help a little, until I can offer a better solution.

    No the display does not have to read in inches, if your machine is setup for metric then using a G20 is all that is needed to run a inch programed part

    you set your work offset, G54 X0Y0 Etc set your tool height, load your program and run it, who cares what the readout is doing or anything else, as long as your part is cut correct there is nothing more to it, I do it like this all the time

    It works the same also if you have a machine that is setup to run in Inches, and you want to run a metric program all you do is add a standard G-Code G21 at the start of your program and the control will run and, machine it in metric

    Yes, of course, you're right. The machine will work properly as you said.

    But my program also offers a lot of graphical possibilities besides the G-code sender.
    For example, it would be very nice if you could use the simulation mode also in imperial mode to avoid collisions.
    To do this, however, the dimensions must be converted to metric so that a workpiece is displayed correctly in relation to the 3D machine model.

    What I just wanted to say was that I wanted a program that could handle imperial units in all areas.

    Greetings GrblGru,

    Per my posting on your YouTube channel I've converted my Son's Unimat lathe using an UNO and GRBL 1.1 and I'm using your excellent software. Because the X & Y axis labeling are non-traditional it works very well if I generate the g-code in your program and swap the stepper motor cables on my controller. (X to Y and Z to X)

    I've watched most of the videos but I'm having difficulty understanding how to set the Y axis origin in the software relative to the actual part in the lathe. I do understand how to set the origin in the software and that it will calculate the distance from that point to the center of the axis. (Y-xx.xxx) Can you please explain how I then set the tool in the lathe to the physical part I'm about to cut to match the origin in the software ?

    I also hope that I will finally get to rename the axis designations soon.

    To your question. Here's what I do on my machine:
    - Turning of a cylinder with any diameter
    - Measurement of the created diameter with the caliper gauge
    - Enter the radius of the diameter in the Y-axis from the program
    - Press the' Origin' key to set the starting diameter.

    Please let me know if you have any questions or if sth. doesn't work as it should.

    I have been playing with the program a little bit and added a macro to the list as "Home" but the simulator model "Shapeoko 2" doesn't execute the code G28 or G91 G28 Z0 or G91 G28 X0 Y0 Z0. I am only using the program for simulation. I was hoping it would return to its "Home" position. Also when jogging to a spot on the table to set the part origin, it no longer can travel to "HOME" and negative X and Y limits can be exceeded on the simulation.

    In simulation mode, you can enter the home position in the Machine Manager. If you then press the Home button, the machine will move to the home position.
    In order to prevent the axes from leaving their travel range, you can select the option "Check limits" in the setting.

    Thank you for the explanation GrblGru. That makes perfect sense.

    I'm doing my programming in simulation mode on my laptop in the comfort of my home and then saving the g-code and copying it to the computer attached to the lathe down in the less comfortable basement.

    I now understand that I can input a radius into the program in simulation mode and then cut my blank to that diameter on the lathe and set that to my Y axis origin. Very easy and straight-forward !

    Release notes V3.26

    Easter is just around the corner,
    and after I added the virtual 3D model of an EggBot to the program some time ago, I now want to provide a real model.
    It was important for me to use the normal GRBL with 3 motors. The well-known variant with the servo for pen lifting was therefore eliminated.

    Another important point was to keep costs as low as possible. The practical execution is certainly not a mechanical engineering masterpiece.
    Expectations of speed and precision must therefore not be set too high. It's more about the principle.
    However, the model is hopefully still suitable for teaching important knowledge of CNC technology in a playful way.
    (And you can also paint eggs with it)

    Reproduction of the model is not only possible with GrblGru, but with any other control system.
    If necessary, you can also saw out the plywood parts with a fretsaw.

    The actual operation of the model is currently only tailored to GrblGru.
    But maybe someone can change the construction so that a servo takes over the pen lift again.
    This would also make it possible to control the whole thing with InkScape.
    Suggestions for improvement are welcome.

    Hi GrblGru,

    I'm making good progress controlling the Unimat with your software.

    Hoping you can help me with a parameter tool issue. I suspect it's something I'm neglecting to do but haven't figured it out yet.

    I changed the angles of the parameter tool in the 2D view to match what I have setup on the lathe. It displays correctly in the 2D and 3D STL views but it doesn't appear to be calculating the new shape correctly. (Mostly in the X axis.) I restarted the software to make sure it was reading the new shape but that didn't resolve it. I'm running your most recent Beta version 3.25.8.

    I've attached a picture showing the simulation.


    Also, I attempted to create a copy of the latheprofile.dat file so I could modify it to match my tool but it doesn't allow me to save anything in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\toe\GrblGru" directory.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you for the reply. I tried again testing the limits of travel and it worked as normal except if you use the corner buttons to move both axes, it will still over travel on x and y even if the limits are set in configuration file correctly. This is on version 3.25.8

    Hi,Could not find a minimum systemI am new to cnc and am just at the end of first machine build. I have been experimenting with your programme which is great. My only problem is that the g code creator (nc) button does not function on my machine. configuration but I am running on a windows 7 32bit laptop. Does GrblGru require a 64bit machine?All the best

    Using Fusion360 with postprocessor (https://github.com/Strooom/GRBL-Post-Processor/wiki) works well if i use other grbl uploaders but not with your Uploader, is there a way you can fix this? Or have i to use a different postprozessor in Fusion?
