    Hi Guys,

    I've just purchased UCCNC and the 300eth to replace my MACH3 configuration, as well as the 2017 screenset. Having done so, I installed the latest HYPLUGIN.DLL with some success. With the initial installation on 2017, the spindle would not turn on. I loaded MACH3, which was already able to turn the spindle on, and it worked as I expected. I loaded UCCNC/2017 again, and the spindle would start but I could not control the speed with the slider. I don't remember if an "s10000" command changed the speed or not :-( I loaded the default UCCNC screenset, reconfigured HYPLUGIN, and it worked. Went back to UCCNC/2017, nothing. Went back to default, nothing.

    help? any clues?

    In the 2017 Screenset, you need to change the field number of the RPM DRO from 870 to 2451.

    As for the slider, it was probably due to the commanded rpm being too low. The slider will not increase the speed above the commanded rpm, unless you edit the slider parameters.

    That exactly fixed my problem. It wasn't clear that the RPM DRO value needed to be changed.
    Is that only to make this work under the 2017 screenset?

    The screenset was created before DRO 2451 was added to UCCNC. At some point, the plugin was changed to require the 2451 DRO (Overridden RPM).
    The plugin wont work in any screen that doesn't have DRO 2451.

    Aaarrrggghh!

    As previously noted, I did get the system working.

    Mostly.

    About half the time, the spindle doesn't turn on. Seemingly randomly. Then, just as randomly, it turns back on.

    Just now,
    1. restart windows
    2. start UCCNC
    3. issue S10000
    4. press "spindle cw (m3)". led came on.
    5. nothing.
    6. press "spindle cw (m3)" again. led went off
    7. repeat 3 to 6 several times with different speed values. nothing
    8. open device manager to make sure windows had not re-assigned com port. it hadn't
    9. open configure plugins, and view the settings for HYPLUGIN. all looks same as previous and just fine
    10. try to turn spindle on again;
    11. WORKS.
    12. on and off, works.
    13. HELP!?!?

    Any notions or ideas about how to debug it?

    Upload your pro file for profile used and a link to the RS485 converter your using and will try to help narrow down to where your problem is.

    First, let me mention that the hardware (serial adapter, computer, etc) has not changed since I was using this under MACH3. No failures there ever.

    My current profile is attached, as are the driver details.

    First, let me mention that the hardware (serial adapter, computer, etc) has not changed since I was using this under MACH3. No failures there ever.
    For whatever reason, there have been several people here with adapters that worked in Mach that do not work consistently in UCCNC. All of their issues went away when they switched adapters.

    OK, never mind. I didn't look at the adapter you were using. Same one I am.

    Mine is fairly loose in the USB port, and it will lose connection easily if I bump it at all. IS that a possibility?

    I use a relay for on/off, though, and have not run into this issue.

    Hi Rick,

    Your pro file correct settings eliminates all the common problems.

    How the plugin works is when UCCNC first starts it sends a command for HZ and won't start working until receives a response from VFD. Even though your using a CH340 RS-485 the fact that it randomly works still makes me think it's a connection issue, if another problem it just won't work. Check your connections like Gerry suggested.

    Another sure way to determine if it's a configuration problem or not is to download a free trail Serial Monitor, this will show you what's being sent to Serial Port and know if your problem is before or after serial port. If you need a link let me know.

    Another thing to check is make sure your RPM is not lower than your min RPM set in plugin/UCCNC You can set your VFD to display this.

    What plugin were you using in Mach3??

    If were using Le Royaume plugin check your VFD parameter PD144 and make sure it's on default setting 1440

    Here are other settings to check

    I made sure of the speed settings, etc.
    The converter is located in a place where it won't be bumped or move.
    Where can I get "serial monitor" ? I have previously used "portmon" but it doesn't work on 64-bit windows :-(

    I got a serial monitor running, and captured an example of the system when running and when failing.
    It looks like the system is returning very different data for the same commands...
    Any ideas?

    Hi,

    Question that is off this topic part of the VFD cause I have not gotten that far with it yet.

    I am using MACH 4 I just got this machine put together about 2 weeks ago but have yet to have the same VFD you are discussing here power up. It is a 220v and came pre-wired and programmed.

    The control box is a Gecko g540 with a E-stop. I first thought it was the relay but have moved passed that idea. I have gotten it to power on but was done by closing the loop with out the relay so I know the VFD works or at least will come one.

    With that being said everything has power going to it. Is the reason it does not turn on due to a setting in the Mach 4 software? About at the end of this dream of joining the fun of running a CNC machine and creating things myself.

    I am very sorry for cutting into this discussion and only did so since the VFD being discussed is the same as mine.

    Thank you all so much for helping someone that has never messed with a cnc before.

    Hi Rick,

    As I posted previously there seems to be connection/communication problem and this is what your serial monitor results also show me. I will briefly explain how plugin works and what serial monitor shows to help you debug and determine where your problem is. If it's a bad 485 converter or noise etc...This is something you will need to troubleshoot with the process of elimination. My Guess from what I see it's noise...Your communication/connection trouble start once spindle is turned on.

    When UCCNC first starts HY plugin sends a command to read a setting in your VFD for a connection test, once a correct response than the plugin begins by sending your min RPM to VFD and starts monitoring while continually sending a "Stop" command until spindle is turned on.

    Your serial monitor results don't reflect this but I see it happened because plugin is sending commands and you only posted a small clip of the monitor results.


    Tx = transmit
    Rx = response

    01 03 01 01 31 88 (command sent for spindle on forward) and expected response from VFD is: 01 03 01 09 30 4E

    01 03 01 08 F1 8E (command sent for spindle stop) expected response from VFD is: 01 03 01 00 F0 48

    When RX(responds) with exact match from Tx(sent) means connection is lost.


    First looking at your "working" row.

    All is working up to the point to where spindle is turned on. If you look to the bottom of "working" row forth command up you can see plugin sent a stop command 4 times before losing total
    communication, this leads me to think noise is your issue.

    Are you using shielded cables? Especially from VFD to spindle!
    Is your system properly star grounded?

    These VFD's are very noisy and if these things aren't properly addressed it will cause your system many unexpected results regardless how you control your HY VFD/spindle.

    I can certainly make improvements as needed to get this stuff to work.
    The RS485 cable is shielded, but probably not (yet) grounded.
    Can you please describe the star grounding scheme you are recommending, or kindly point me to a resource to read about it?
    Can you recommend what wire/cable to use for the spindle? I've had problems figuring out and finding what to buy for that anyway, and wouldn't mind replacing it if needed.

    What kw is your spindle and VFD? this will determine the proper size shielded cable you will need, I will link you a source. I really don't think it's even possible to use these VFD/spindle successively without using a shielded cable from VFD to spindle.

    Star grounding is simply having all components going back to a Ground (Earth) and not each other.

    I'm really not sure of your question but have no experience with Mach4 and even less with the Gecko g540 .
