I use a lathe about 15 times yr. I set all my tools up on dead centre. Maybe thats not right or it is but it works with ok finishes and the cuts are smooth. But wondering why the parting tool in the very same set sits quite a lot higher than the rest. Is this correct and does the tip need to be higher than the center of the chuck? It does not add up to me. If I was to have a turret I would need to have a turret low enough to hold the parting tool, but then pack up all my other tools. Using a 16mm set at this present time. Is this normal for lathe tooling? Or is it a dumb mistake that has continued just because that's been how its done always. Kind of like a middle manager thing lol
