Yes, I think it´s a great opportunity. You can use 360° videos or create a CGI based virtual reality. Although the production means a lot of effort and can be expensive at first, in the end it may be really cost effective: You can avoid to send a lot of staff to trade shows, book hotels, wasting time with the wrong visitors and so on.
But I don´t think, that virtual events will replace physical trade shows entirely. The face to face contact will still be important, now and in 20, 50 or 100 years.
