    Default Motor pulley diameter

If I machine a smaller pulley for the motor, will it affect the SFM or feed or the RPM DRO?

The lathe comes with two pulleys and two choices in the menu, 5C high speed and low speed for the 6in chuck.

I would like to have a bit more torque by making a smaller pulley, could this be a problem?

    Thanks for any input.

Unless you figure how to update the PP configuration file, it will give you erroneous values for all of that. And it is quite possible that the lathe will not even run, but will error out because the encoder measured speed doesn't match the commanded speed.

Thanks a lot, that exactly what I wanted to know.

I don’t think it will effect anything. The encoder is attached to the spindle not to the motor. The controller already allows for 2 motor pulley sizes. You just tell it whether you are using the small or large. Try it. I bet it works perfect. I have stalled my spindle and the motor controller did not send a message to the control. It did not stop feeding until I hit feed hold.
