I have been struggling with making some fine features in A2, and would love any thoughts, recipes, ideas, or comments that the forum might have! The part is a 1/4in logo stamp (see photo), cut into annealed A2. The smallest gaps are ~20 thou, so I started out using a 20 thou ball engraver from lakeshore using an adaptive clearing strategy with a stepdown of 0.005in and a feed of 8in/min. That worked for a bit, but ended up snapping off the ball.
My current plan is to rough as much around the edges as I can with a 1/16 endmill, then use a 30 degree 1/8 mill-drill to drill the holes, cut the slots, and trace the shape with a DOC of 0.025 and a feed of 0.7in/min at the 1100's maximum RPM of 5000. Does this seem like a reasonable option?
