Couldn't figure how to edit my post, so let me clarify a little, The machine is an 1100 series III and the VFD, (not the VFR), displays error code v5, I've searched for a list of the error codes and so far have found nothing. Might have to go to the Tormach website which I prefer to avoid. For this "Alter Kocher" it's anything but user friendly. More like user antagonistic.

If you think Tormach's site is bad, try some VFD sites.

rS is a motor problem (disconnected, wrong motor, etc) on the Emerson Commander SK. (Br rS may be a brake resistor error).

Got copy of the 1100 manual, went through the checklist, measured the voltages, and operated the key a few times. Everything checked out OK. So, just out of frustration I pressed the start button and it came back from the dead. Same under program control. Works fine.

It is good that you're back in the shop John!
Switches from inactivity develop an insulating film sometimes on the contacts, my VFD speed potentiometer is doing this now as I rarely use it (varies in rpm).
