Cleaning Tormach drill chucks

Just got some new tooling from Tormach. The drill chucks have a bunch of dried cosmoline (or whatever they use) stuck behind the teeth and on internal parts of the jaw.

I’m debating whether these are high enough quality to take apart or if I should just leave it. It probably doesn’t affect function, albeit it’s hard not to visually notice.

What do your all do?

I spray new tools or tooling with wd40 then tooth brush, wipe down and set it tray to dry. Repeat if its still sticky. I have used other cleaners in the past but tend to do this because its always on the shelf handy. tts or bt taper shafts I clean with rubbing alcohol every 4-6 months.

Rather than WD40 I use carburetor cleaner (Gunk or a cheaper substitute from my local discount auto parts store). Vigorous wiping with a rag saturated with cleaner helps to remove the sticky stuff. For moving parts like a drill chuck I then apply a few drops of air tool oil.

I like WD40 too. Brake clean or rubbing alcohol for TTS shafts works fine.

I use paint thinner in a steel tray. Then just wipe off with a cotton cloth. Works a treat!
(And if there's really bad stuff, it comes off with acetone.)
I just get a tin jug of each and keep in the garage, pouring out only what I need. I'm sure I temporarily go above the California VOC limits when I use it, but on average I'm still way under :-D

I will mention here just because this bites me now and then.
Use never seize on all threaded insert screws. Dont skip this even one time when changing inserts.
