Is there any website that serve as guide to ratios between the endmill and shank diameter? A small company where I work received a request from a client for a carbide tipped stub length drill. The issue I find however is that shank diameter is only 3/8 while the rest of the endmill is 55/64. It seems to me that shank diameter is too small and ideally I would like to recommend a viable alternative to their request. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
an alternative use for the 3/8 shank could be for a swiss machine
the one's i run are er16 collet style which would give a max shank size of 10mm (.3937)
stub style would be the preferred cutting because of the limited length allowed in the machine
the machines couldn't handle a full cut like a vmc so it is lite ipr's and it's probably being used to open up an existing hole if used on a swiss
side note NTK offers a .787 dia 3 flute indexable with a shank to fit a er16 collet

@jwatte, no it's not a typo. It really is 3/8. The issue is that the whole piece is in carbide and it will definitely break off. This is why I was asking if, for safety reasons, what would be the minimal diameter we could reocmmend. I was thinking 1/2. Do you guys think 3/4 would be more acceptable?
