Hands up everyone that remembers Alibre's Free-3d-CAD-For-Life offer?
And when they killed it, Alibre practically died with it.

While I never thought Fusion 360 would be free forever, if they were to kill the free version, they'd lose more than half of their users, likely for good. Unless it was maybe $100/year? And even then they'd lose a lot of users.

I was an early adopter as well at $300.00 annually. I still update TurboCad every two or three versions and it costs more than that and does not have CAM. 2D sketches for me are simply much faster in TC.
I find the pricing schemes and transparency with Fusion 360 to be very good to excellent. I am happy to pay that for the return I get from it. It is very good software and getting better every month.

I asked on their forum why early adapters are treated differently from "regular" ultimate users.

Early adapters purchased an "Ultimate" subscription, just via a special offer. But Autodesk treats us like we purchased something different.

    Just saying....

I'll keep paying my $300, with the hope that someday I'll get more use out of it than I do now.

The difference is that the people paying full price get the next 2 years for free, and we don't.
Instead, we get 1000 free cloud credits/year.

    Well that is a difference.
I don't think I have ever used a cloud credit.

On the other hand, full-price ultimate users don't get any break once their 2 free years is over, whereas if you were to get a license now, you'd be locked in at a $185/yr discount..

True, but being locked in at $300 is the reason we were early adopters. We're still getting what we signed up for, while the other Ulimate subscribers get two years free.

This is the statement that rubs you the wrong way.

As a sign of our appreciation, you’ll notice current subscribers (who sign up prior to October 7) will be taken care of.
It just doesn't seem like they are doing anything for early adopters. Maybe if I used a lot of Cloud Credits, but I've yet to use any.

I think the cloud credit are mainly for faster better renders and will let you continue working while the renders compile in the cloud.
My desktop renders fast enough for my needs pretty quickly.

I think some simulations, and Generative Design (which is really cool) as well.

As a early adopters I paid $300 in December of 2014, and in 2015 Autodesk gave early adopters a free year. My next payment was in 2016 for another $300. In 2017 I did not think the $300 annual fee was buying me anything I needed and became a hobby user.

If I'm reading this correctly, does that mean that indivudals that pay for a subscription between now and Oct 7th get locked into the $310 rate for the foreseeable future? Or will they have the $495 rate?

    Thatr's how I read this:

New Fusion 360 subscribers - Purchases prior to October 7th 2018 the current price for as long as you renew. You will have access to the new Fusion 360 functionality on or before October 7th 2018.
Looks like if you subscribe before Oct. 7, you'll get locked into the $310 price for as long as you keep your subscription active. I wouldn't wait until the last minute...
