    Hi Mike
PathPilot certainly can be installed on an empty drive.

    Thank you sir!
I wasnt sure as it had to do with installing it over the 1.9 series, good to know as I am thinking about a spare computer setup for the mill and I would like to try one of those SSD drives.

Many older Tormach supplied controllers used 3.5-inch drives while most SSDs are 2.5-inch. There are cheap (<$10) sheet metal brackets to adapt to the smaller drives. Just a heads up so that you don't get the drive and find that it can't be installed. Don't ask how I know! My 120GB SSD has worked great so far.

    good to know thanks

I will most likely go to EPC and have it put together so that it works out of the box, then order the appropriate mesa card for it, would like one of the smaller ones but I need their input on that as far as problems etc..

Does that apply to PP 2.x.x? I have the 2.0.0 on order but meanwhile my old HD bit the dust. I've ordered a new drive and PP 2.0.0 should be arriving with in the next week.

Do you mean a 2.x.x upgrade file? For a virgin machine you have to install 2.0.0 from the USB drive and then install the desired upgrade. The upgrade files contain just a tiny fraction of everything comprising Linux, Linux apps and PathPilot.

It will be with a new hard drive, probably won't even have an operating system on it. The PathPilot will be, when it arrives, 2.0.0. I want to install it on the new hard drive.

To install on a virgin machine -- one with or without the hard drive formatted or an OS installed -- boot from the PP 2.0.0 USB stick and respond to a few prompts. It takes only a few minutes and should be painless..
