Default Old horizontal mill conversion-thoughts and advise

    Hi to all,
Recently got old sturdy horizontal mill, approx dimensions about 60x60x60 cm, sturdy column and complete cast iron, hravy one, about 100 kg...
Will convert it to vertical mill firat and add closed loop steppers, ballscrews etc.
As first consideration, wouls like to hear your opinion:
I intend to put thick metal plates (12-15mm) on all axis and put linear rails on top of plates. What would be proper size, I think to use hgh20? Also, I will make a new saddle and new casting iron head mount for vertical spindle...
Going with plates makes me easier to align rails, ensure parallelism and squareness, since plates will be machined on CNC, so the saddle too.
Will fix them on top of vee grooves...
Here are few pics. More pics later.
    Thanx in advance!
