spindle stop / mount test indicator

Seems like a silly question, but: how to you properly stop the spindle from spinning when using a test indicator?

Like in this video:

Or if someone has a different method entirely would be interested in that as well.

On my Taig, I jam a piece of foamcore between the pulley and spindle body to prevent the spindle from rotating (low-tech but it works). You could also machine a spindle lock that uses a wrench head to lock the ER16 nut in place, like so:
