    Default Syil X4+ Gas Strut

Whilst stripping my machine for cleaning, I took the gas strut off and noticed it was more like a slide whistle with zero resistance!!

Anyone replaced one on their machine? The label on my strut is badly worn and torn. Not sure if it would help if I had any figures from it.

I could try a generic one BUT I really don't know what force is required. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Matt,

After you measure the original strut length checkout the McMaster-Carr part number 4138T63 with 100 pound extension force, it may be a good substitute.

    Have a most awesome day!

    Thanks Jeff,

It looks like the head unit is approx 30kgs (66lbs) Do you think I should consider the lower spec strut (50lbs)?
In the UK, they seem to be calibrated in Newtons - and so 30kgs equates to 300N.
Will have a look at the McMaster parts......

Make sure the new strut is mounted skinny shaft downwards, so that the seals remain covered in oil.
Original factory install was wrong way up.
You can get a longer strut to increase the travel of the head.

    Thanks neilw20.

I read somewhere about them being the wrong way round! I have one arriving tomorrow and will ensure it is correctly installed.

I can now confirm that the 400N gas strut seems to work OK. Now onto other bits of the machine!
