Default Advice, need power supply for 12N.m Nema 34 Hybris Stepper.

    Hello!

Quick advice. I just purchased Stepper Motor Drive Kit 12NM NEMA34 Hybrid Servo Closed Loop Stepper Control Kit

Can anyone suggest a Power Supply? I can't find it now, but I saw a youtube video, where the reviewer said he made a mistake in buying a switching power supply, instead of the big round transformer power supply? Which is better?

Would a PSU be able to power 2 of these motors, or do I need 2 PSUs.

    I think I read I need a 70v PSU, I mistakenly ordered a 24v switching PSU.:-(

    Thanks for your advice!

    Kenny

This one would be my first choice https://www.automationtechnologiesin...vac-or-230vac/

Your drives are rated at 40 - 110 VDC so getting as close as possible to the upper limit is desired, better motor performance. The PS above would run both motors at full load with no problem.

The seller of the motor suggested I use a 60 VAC 400-500w power supply. I've never worked with AC and a motor. Any advantages or drawbacks? I may need to go with a under $100 PSU to start. Limited budget.

You'll likely need to build your own AC supply, as they are not as readily available as DC supplies.

OK, then all you need is a transformer, this one can be wired to get 60VAC output with either 240 or 120 V input. https://www.ebay.com/itm/General-Sig...6677:rk:1:pf:0

    Voltage 60~80VAC/DC40-110V
    Question is what is better??

If I would like to squeeze every last bit of performance should I go with AC or DC?

    DC switching power supply like:
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/CNC-...c-bc3af880d493

Should I go with 90, 100 or 110V and wait for magic smoke

    or 70 V transformer like:
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...2e8c3c00DcytsI

A which option will be better to achieve the best performance?
I do understand that controllers and motors might need extra cooling.

It doesn't matter, if you input AC to the drive it is rectified to DC in the drive anyway.

You don't want to use a switching power supply to run a motor drive. Use an unregulated transformer type power supply, much better for running motor drives.

The 70V transformer would work fine. As far as performance it doesn't make any difference AC or DC input.

    So the question still stands.
    Voltage 60~80VAC/DC40-110V

Option 1: 80VAC transformer Connect to the driver - converted by the driver to 80VDC

Option 2 110V transformer - simple AC to DC converter - 110VDC conected to driver.

As I understand, at the end diver will be powered 80V or 110V DC ?

So option 2 is a better solution?

Based on the torque graph, this could make a HUGE difference, especially at high RPM !!!

80 vac rectified becomes 113 vdc. Again, no difference.

What 109jb said. Multiply AC by 1.414 to get DC voltage.
