Default Driving a 5 phase motor

I am attempting to drive a 5 phase / 10 wire motor. Specifically a Berger Lahr VRDM 5913/50 LNC 5 Phase motor. I was thinking of trying to drive this with 5 a4988 and I'm pretty sure I even have some sample code that I think will work but I'm jsut not really sure. Maybe a ramps board with the a4s on board the mega?

I would appreciate any thoughts on this as I hesitate to spend $700 on a driver for a motor I am not 100% certain of.

    Thanks!

EDIT: The application is to drive a belt for steering on a lawn motor so it won't be spinning freely it will always be within about 10-12 turns from the point of origin.

EDIT 2: Not a riding lawnmower, this one will be driving itself.

Oriental Motor makes some specific ICs for driving those. Probably others do too.

The common TI and Allegro parts are not going to do the job.
