    Thanks, what I don't know is where step, dir, and enable wire to the driver in the picture.

    OK, here's my set-up. I have 3 drivers and this controller board, perhaps you could give me an idea how to wire it. I have a regulated 30V power supply, using NEMA 23 hi-torque motors. Really appreciate your help, thanks!

    Basically:
    - power the controller board like you dit before, using the 12V powersupply
    - connect the USB cable like you did before
    - power the TB6600 drivers using the 30V powersupply
    - connect the steppers to the TB6600 drivers
    - connect the steppers control signals step, dir, enable to the corresonding pins on the (removed) A4998 board, You have to remove this board!

    Tb6600 <=> 30V powersupply
    GND <=> GND
    VCC <=> 30V

    Tb6600 <=> Stepper
    A+ <=> to the same wire as previously connected to the board
    A- <=> to the same wire as previously connected to the board
    B+ <=> to the same wire as previously connected to the board
    B- <=> to the same wire as previously connected to the board

    Tb6600 <=> Controller board, A4988 driver board pin, remove A4988 board!
    Pul -(Pul) <=> step
    Pul+(Pul) <=> 5V
    Dir- (Dir) <=> dir
    Dir+ (Dir) <=> 5V
    Ena- (Ena) <=> enable
    Ena+ (Ena) <=> 5V

    I hope it is clear, if not explain what you do not understand.

    with the A4988 stepper drivers removed

    you can connect the +5V , -step & - direction wires to the new stepper drivers like this :-

    Help with L298N-a4988-stepper-driver-replacement-jpg

    you will need either to use solid wires to plug into the socket the A4988 stepper drivers has been removed from
    or
    solder flexible wires to the same type of male pins as used on the A4988 stepper driver

    https://www.cnczone.com/forums/attac...d=397390&stc=1Tried wiring it again, no luck, apparently I'm missing something. I removed the drivers from the controller, but can't figure out where the wires go to the new driver. Am attaching pic of my set-up.
    Could you possibly tell me where the step, direction, etc. go from looking at the pics, thanx!

    Look at the drivers you have removed. They have pins clearly labeled as STEP, DIR, ENABLE and GND. Those pins go to PUL+, DIR+, ENA+ and GND on the new drivers. PUL-, DIR- and ENA- probably need to be connected to GND.

    I thought you had this board
    Help with L298N-s-l1600-jpg

    the one in post 27 has the arduino as a plug in module instead of built into the control board

    Help with L298N-control-driver-jpg
    the position of the step , direction +5V and gnd connections
    appears to be printed on the board but is not readable in your photo

    Thanx!! I did have the other board, but swapped it on someone's advice, can't remember who. Where does the driver get the 5v power from, the controller, or do I need a separate 5v power supply?

    You must use the 5 volt from the controller. Locate the pin the way you used for the dir pin.

    Any 5 Volt pin will do. There are two pins on the arduino board ( i think it is a nano) on top of the controller board. And on the controller port there will be a pin labeled 5V.

    On the A4988 or DRV8825 board, it is pin VDD

    These pins go directly to the L298N driver and are used to control the two motor outputs. In the data sheet of the L298N is explained how to use them.

    According to the picture, you connected Pul+, DIR+, ENA+ to the ground (green wire). Pul+, DIR+, ENA+ should be connected to the +5V.

    first ,
    for your initial tests you can disconnect the enable wiring to your stepper driver

    without details of how the arduino based control board or the control software works

    I can not be sure if your controller is set up for
    active high or active low outputs to control the stepper drivers step or direction inputs or if its easy to change in software

    If the controller outputs are wired so the control GND is connected to the pulse & direction negative terminals
    and the control pulse & direction positive outputs go to there respective stepper driver + pulse & +direction terminals

    you could try it with the controller outputs are wired so the control +5V is connected to the pulse & direction positive terminals
    and the control pulse & direction negative outputs go to there respective stepper driver - pulse & - direction terminals
    like the diagram in post 30
