    Default Driver for old stepper

    Hello everyone.

I'm about to finish my first low budget 3 axis CNC machine with Arduino GRBL. Everything is working, except that motors are not powerful enough .
I'm using very old isel linear rails with steppers - got them from junkyard. Motor specs are 2,2 V and 4,6 A. I was testing it with DM542, it did turn, but it failed with heavier motor loads of course.
Which driver should I buy - there are so many on Ebay, with different prices for the same models...?
Also, is there any difference if I am using 24 or 48 power supply?

    Best regards.

All things being equal, a 48V power supply will give you roughly double the top speed.

I use the AM882's from Ebay, and they work great.
But if you have the DM542 set to 4.2 amps, you won't see much difference from a better drive, unless you up the voltage even higher.

DM542 is set to 4.2 amps, but output current is only 1.2 A per phase... Am I doing something wrong?
