    Balsaman, That is way cool!!!
One question. How did you handle the distribution & timing of the pressure? Can't figure it out from the pics

Very nice balsaman. Very neat. It would probably run more smoothly with a flywheel although it's pretty smooth anyway.

Runs quite slowly, it it a long stroke? is that why it's called the lazy v4?!

Yeah what sort of valve gear is it balsaman? From the first pic it looks like there are two holes for piston type valves in the block. How are they driven and are the exhaust ports on the outer sides of the block??

    Thanks, great engine ..

    Nick

Yes there are 4 piston type valves driven off of ecentrics on the main shaft. Two valves on each ecentric. The exhaust is directed out the top of the cylinder into pockets over the valves in the head and the pockets are ported to the outside via a hole in the head. Here is a 3D view to look at that could clear things up a little...

    Bore and stroke .75" x 1.5"

The thing will run quite slowly altho it will do what seems like 5000 rpm if I crank up the pressure...

Flywheels are coming up soon, hang on...

Excellent Balsaman. You designed the engine yourself didn't you? Very unusual and unique. At least here in the UK we don't see much like that.

Thanks. Yes, it's my own design and first design.

    Way cool.

Does it self-start or do you have to give it a little 'kick'?

Impressive! Great little engine, I bet other people would be interested in building that.

    Was it difficult to make?

So what's the next project then??

I noticed you'd done a Webster gas engine, how was that to make? I've never made an i.c. engine yet.

    Thanks,

    NIck

It self starts, altho I need to up the pressure a little sometimes to get her to go, then I can reduce it to keep it running. I might try and play with the timing a bit to optimize it.

I am building a stand and some flywheels. Stay tuned.
