    Default G540 / Mach3 / Hyuanyang VFD

    I'm just now getting around to wiring up Mach3 my G540 and my Hyuanyang VFD. Currently, I'm manually turning on and off the spindle via the VFD but I'm finding that to be inconvenient due to its location and if I can do it via software then that makes total sense.

    Could someone explain how the control process works... mentally I'd like to understand what is taking place before I try and wire it up.

    I don't understand what the modbus is and how its used in the connectivity and why its needed?? I'm also seeing a plug in that is being used is this still needed..? https://www.machsupport.com/forum/in...c,22806.0.html

    I also found a post by "Al_the_Man" which seems simple enough from a connectivity perspective, is this still good?

    As a stopgap, the control panel on those HT VFDs unclips so you can put it anywhere you like (within reason).

    If you're not using an ATC spindle then it's not necessary to have the software control the spindle.

    You're not technically meant to turn them on at the same time anyway. The spindle should be turned on first and given time to warm up before starting work.

    It would be more convenient though... Which is why it's on my "to do list" (and has been for two years).

    Thanks for the reply. No ATC here, I wish!

    I'm finding the buttons on the control panel aren't very robust, or I'm just too rough on them, yikes!

    I'm in a similar boat, 1 year and counting... it's time to get it done!

    Modbus is a communication system over two conductors, IOW, all info is sent in a serial fashion and both ends have to conform to the same protocol.
    My post on the G540 interface is just for FWD signal control method.

    The diagram is still effective though, correct?

    Thanks Al. Would there ever be communication the other direction on the G540, would that VFD feedback? When/how/why would that communication ever take place???

    It just hit me, I assume the feedback would be in terms of an ATC spindle, correct?

    You can have bidirectional communication, control AND interrogation etc by using Modbus.
