Default Huanyang VFD how to set torque at lower speeds?

I don't think I have this Huanyang VFD configured quite right. I noticed that the inverter is not compensating for slip at all because if I turn the spindle on with something like 100rpm or so, I can easily stop the spindle with a very light load and the inverter will not fight it. Is there a parameter I need to adjust to allow the inverter to lay down more power to the motor to help keep this from happening?

Another issue I noticed is that when I am machining, I am only able to remove about 1.2-ish cubic inches of steel per minute before the spindle motor starts to bog down. I feel like that may be a little on the weak side for metal removal on a 2hp mill. I know the spindle belt is not slipping.

You didn't mention what spindle you have, but if it's one of the high ish rpm ones (18k, 24k etc) they basically have no torque at low rpm. Ie that max power is probably at the highest rpm. You may be able to optimize in your vfd, but fyi...

Right, the spindle runs a 2hp three phase 4 pole motor. So, at around 60hz, it's already at it's nameplate RPM. I would likely not run it at 100rpm, but I could see using it at around 300rpm and up.

Is your VFD sensorless vector? If so maybe the VFD is set for V/Hz operation.

If you need torque at low speed, put the head in back gear. You won't be able to stop the spindle.

Is there a way to tell if its sensorless vector? I did a search for "sensorless" and "vector" in the instruction PDF, and I got no results.

Hmmm, I think my goose may be cooked. I can't find anything talking about sensorless vector / SVC.

BTW, I just noticed I missed your call last night, must have been in the shop making chips.

I am going to buy one of those in a couple weeks. I will probably just get the 3hp version since its only like 50 bucks more. Without that extra torque at low speeds, the only advantage I gained with this current VFD is getting the phase converter out of the picture.

I bought the Huanyang because Automation Direct was out of stock on those 3hp VFD's a few weeks ago.
