Default gouge check , is there something i'm not getting here ?

I've been experimenting with Solidcam for a 4 axis machine. Very frustrating so far.
I was hoping to use the multi-axis operation to machine some test cases I use to test out it's features.
So, gouge check : Why would one ever *want* gouging ? Am I missing something basic here, I mean, I don't think I should ever have to specify any faces to protect from ruining with gouges. It should always make tool paths that consider the end of the end mill and never dig into my part.
It knows the full 3D geometry of my part, so don't ruin it please!
I also get a lot of collision errors when I do a simulate/solid check.
It knows the shape of the tool holder, etc ( how else did it detect the collision ? ) , so why on earth doesn't it modify the tool path to avoid the issue in the first place?

I'm getting the feeling that this product is, for lack of better works, rather dumb, and actually needs the operator to specify almost every move manually.
Are all CAM products for more than 3 axis also at this level ?
If Solidcam made 3d animation software for movies, I think the movies would be in "South Park" animation quality. Where is the Pixar CAM software ?
Sorry if I sound a bit flustered.

    Hello,

The HSS and 5 axis simultaneous toolpaths are surface based toolpaths, not 3D recognition toolpaths meaning that they don't "know" the 3D geometry. If you are looking for that kind of functionality then I suggest using the Rotary Machining Toolpath or the Screw Machining toolpath (depending on what it is you are trying to machine).

If you are having issues with your part or you want to get some help with using SolidCAM please give us a call at 1-866-975-1115 ext 2 and we can help you out.
