You can't use both the ESS and parallel port with Mach3. It's one, or the other.
Hello friends
good time
I just got my MPG and was thinking on wiring it up to the Parallel port to keep the I/O pins on my ESS free for future things
Is that a good idea ? Should i go to the ESS or it don't make a difference ??

Hi,
Gerry is right you can't use both at the same time. The whole point of having an ESS is that it has the potential to have
51 inputs and outputs.....surely that is enough.
If you really need more try the UC300, it has the equivalent of five parallel ports or 85 input and outputs.
Another possibility is to use a 57E or 57U from PoKeys. These devices can be used a data input board so you could have your existing
ESS as motion control board AND have a 57U inputting data. Naturally you cannot expect realtime communication from your 57U
to your ESS motion controller.....you could expect comm delays between the boards of 50ms or so with Mach3 and about 10ms or so
with Mach4.
