Default Help Wiring Smothstepper with G202

    Hello Everyone

I am wondering if i can take the 5V for the Gecko 202 from a other source then the smothstepper ??

    Like in the picture

What i cant see is were the negative from the 5 volt power supply will go ??

    Thanks

I know i just seen i made a mistake in the picture the 72V power supply only has one 110VAC source not 2

connect the negative 5V connection to the C25 GND

if the C25 can supply enough current
you could connect the G202 input common to a +5V terminal on the C25

    Thank You Very Much John

    I will try that today.
There are only 4 +5V on the C25 Board, I have 4 Geckos, all the limit switches etc..
Also I did something pretty dumb so i don't want to put to much stress on the Smothstepper
my idea was to use all the 5V from the 5V power supply and it has more then enough current to run everything etc..

    Thanks

which version of the smooth stepper do you have ?
a USB or ethernet smooth stepper

with 4 stepper divers you need the C25 to supply about 120mA
when all the C25 outputs go low and about 15mA passes through each of the G202 input opto-isplators

taking the +5V from the smooth stepper should not be a problem

when using the external 5V supply as in your diagram
I would expect the power supplies +5V connector will be big enough to take all the +5V wires from the four G202's

But if you opt to take the +5V from the C25
you could run a short wire from the C25 and use an additional terminal block to join all of the G202 +5v wires together
leaving 3 of the C25's +5V terminals free for other uses

what kind of limit switches are you going to use ?

    Thanks aging John

I am using just plain micro switches and i am running a Ethernet smooth stepper
I also notice my 5v power supply is punting out 4.9v, i don't think that will do anything ??

    4.9V is OK

    5V logic usually works with a supply between 4.75 & 5.25V

as the smoothstepper inputs have a built in pull up to +5V
    for Pins 10, 11, 12, 13, and 15 of all 3 ports

I assume your going to wire the micro switches as normally closed switches in series
and have them connect a smooth stepper input to ground until a switch is tripped

( normally open switches in parallel also works but your system will not fail safe if the switch wiring has a wire break )

They are wired normally open ( i know its not really right ) and they are all independent
I plan to change all that for inductive proximity switches
