Default ARE SMITHY MACHINES USED / REBUILT?

On another thread, a guy says Smithy imports used /rebuilt machines. I couldn't find anything on their website about it. When I called, I sort of got a run-around and no answer. What gives?

Is the tax rate different between used and new when importing or exporting? Could be a way around the system.

    tax rate is indeed different.
also smithy add their own controls in the US, so that may change the classification.

or that shipment may have just been a repair load.

in any case the poster is know for trying to cut down any machine that isnt the one he owns.

I don't see how he is " cutting " anyone down either- he just posted a document from US Customs.
The real question is why Smithy won't clear this up.

Boy- this is an old thread to dig up. Not sure what your question is all about, but the sale of my old Quadra lift before getting a Patriot hardly compares to Smithy, who, based on the import data is selling used machines by the container load.

jdclark is on a distinguished road

Thats interesting- there was another thread a while back in which someone claimed that Smithy was imported used/rebuilt machines. Did they sell it to you as used?

    here's the link
ARE SMITHY MACHINES USED / REBUILT?"

Why do you guys that own Patriots post a lot of negative crap on the Smithy forum. I don't understand, please explain. Thank You.

It's been years ago now, but they ran a truckload sale in town at a local hotel. They still do that?

I remember that too, back around 1994 when I was shopping they showed up at a local motel for a weekend with a " scratch and dent" sale. I spoke to the young guy who was running the show and he sort of boasted that Smithy was the largest selling brand around selling a few hundred machines per month. He said it was cheaper for them to have a truck travelling around the country picking up machines rather than paying freight for machines being returned. He said whenever his truck was full enough they would schedule a sale at a motel parking lot. As far as I was concerned, his boast sort of backfired. I figured if that many machines were being returned, it was not the machine for me.

I don't believe you on the paying return freight bit, no company is that generous, is yours. Or driving around the country to pick up returned machines, that is nonsense. But it would be great if machine tool sellers like Smithy, Syil, Grizzly and Tormach, had sales like that in the major cities. I would try to attend.

I will ask the question yet again to another Patriot owner, like yourself.

    Flathead,
I'm not sure what your agenda is- maybe you work for Smithy or are just trying to be their friend, but I doubt if they appreciate your posts.
I have never said anything negative about Smithy in any post. The negative comments came from Smithy owners who were unhappy.
    This one from cncbpt
The v-belts were cheap junk, the finish chips off and the machines look like they have been used hard and have alot more hours on them than they do.

It was YOU who re-opened this thread- look back and you will see that it was more than a year since anyone posted here until you opened it again.
If you want to help or promote Smithy, more power to you, but your methods are not doing them any good.
