Hello,
I am new. I only worked with Heidenhain control system before. How to do create special tools? With Shopturn apart from the normal tools I can only find ‘mechanical stop’ in the tool list.
For example knurling tool, log gripper…
You could define knurling tool as insertion tool –
I can figure that out but what is a log gripper?
Would be great if anybody could help me!

Hello, my knurling tool is set as finishing tool, my gripper as mechanical stop. You won’t be avoid using G code while doing these kind of jobs.
My opinion is that the machine doesn’t care if you
run for example
G0 x40 z2
G1 x40 z-20
G0 x45
G0 z2
with a mechanical Stopp or engraver.
That's how I do it in Shopturn.

Ok, I thought as much and now I have a confirmation.
I already created the log gripper as I had nothing better available.
Are the traverse path displayed in the simulation?
Why are there 2 groups of turning tools? The angles are set freely by the user anyway?!
I think because of the tool orientation, could that be right?

I am not 100% sure but I think you should see the traverse paths.
I will have a look tomorrow.
The question about the two different turning tools is interesting. I never thought about it but I have to say in my list I don’t have a roughing machine, only finishing machines.
I can’t think of a reason for the two turning tools. I know that you have to choose the angle yourself when finishing. I am going to find out the difference - it interest me as well.
