Anyone here that can tell me how to test a three phase motor to tell if it is good. I got one surplus to use with a rotary phase converter panel as the Idler motor.
It has 9 leads, two sets of three wires are connected and there are three loose wires.
Any help?
Thanks,
Alan T.

First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

You could use a megger but ohmmeter could do. One lead to one of the wires and other to the frame should read infinity. There should be a tag that is showing the wiring setup. I t might be wired for 460 V. I have seen an article written on the very thing that you are trying to do. It was in "Fine Woodworking" magazine book.It is a collection of articles from the magazine and sold in small book form. I remember it had two articles in detail how to set up three phase from household 220 lines. I think it was in book about the machines.
