DUST COLLECTOR ON A SHOP SABER 4896

I have a shop saber 4896 .I am machining MDF doors . Im having a big problem with dust. The dust collector I purchased with the machine doe's not work correctly. I have plenty of suction from my dust collector but it leaves a lot of dust on the table. Any ideas ?????

What kind of dust collector? What size hose are you using? What does your dust shoe look like?

You want at least a 4" hose, 1200-1500cfm, and a dust shoe with 3" brushes that forms a seal to your doors that totally encloses the cutting tools.

I have a 2 h.p. dust collector with a 4 inch hose and a dust shoe with about 4 inch Bristles. That was ordered special with the machine. It seem like I have to stay with the machine with my shop vac in hand to collect the dust. It really concerns me when I am cutting thru 3/4 in material and I have to vacuum it out with a hand vac.

do you have a cyclone or a separator connected to the dust collector. Google Thien separator that should help. It sounds like the filter bags are getting plugged up

Do you have dust in the air, or are you just trying to get the dust out of 3/4" deep cuts?
If it's the latter, it's probably not going to happen. Unless you get a bigger dust collector, and use 1/2" tooling, and make an extra cleanup pass to get the dust out, with either an upcut or compression bit.

We have a 10HP collector with a 10" hose around the spindle. Single cuts through 3/4" material remain packed with dust, unless I do an onion skin pass which tends to pick up all the dust.

We have been taking 1/4 inch cuts with a 1/4 end mill. It just doe's not seem to be picking up very much . It doe's pick up some. Maybe im expecting to much. We are also using a 1/4 in upcut mill.

The only way you'll get all the MDF dust out of the 1/4" kerf is to rig up an air blast at the tool to blow the dust out, which will allow the dust collector to get it. This is what I 'll be doing on my next machine.

Hey Gerry, Seems like a common problem. We are looking at a alternate method. Ill let you know if it works.

is it a three phase dust collector? if so change the phasing and see if that helps at all.
