I picked up a 600 pulse quadrature encoder for the 1720XMTC, and I'm scratching my head on how to drive the thing. What have others done?
I'm thinking driving it from the gearbox output which runs at half or quarter spindle speed is the only option.
Looking for ideas.

Looks like you have a bit of spindle sticking out there that you could either screw a timing pulley onto or a stub shaft and slide a timing pullet onto. Either way it looks like the most reasonable way of doing it.

If you can't get quite enough threads to extend it from what sticks out, you can maybe thread a stub shaft on instead of the shaft nut, so long as you match the critical features on the nut.
Better than drilling holes in the heart of the pulley and possibly initiating cracks.
I would check with a company that sells magnetic linear scale tape, maybe they make something that could replace the magnetic sensor on the face of the pulley. If so, it would stick on the face and you could use the existing sensor bracket for a higher resolution sensor.
