    Default Removing RAM from tailstock on Patriot.

    What's the best way to remove the RAM from the tailstock so you can use the steady rest. Mine has a tight press fit.

    Just remove the 3 allen bolts and give it a whack with a rubber mallet. When putting it back on, be sure all the surfaces are clean.

    Thanks for the confirmation. I've done that but was concerned about the stress on the movement screw. I guess I'm too paranoid. I also thought about taking he bolts off and extending the ram into the chuck to press it off. That would also load the screw but probably less peak loads, but also put pressure on the front spindle bearing.
