Fake Yaskawa SGDB servo drives (NOS still in the box)

Hi guys,

This is just an FYI, I got called in to a friend's shop because his "brand-new-NOS-Yaskawa-still-in-the-box" SGDB-ADG drive wouldn't work. Subsequent investigation (we disassembled the drive) showed that the buss capacitor wasn't wired up, and the two ground straps in the lower left and right hand corners of the drive were missing entirely.

He bought it years ago and tossed it on a shelf until he needed it. Probably what the scammer was hoping for.

In any case, just a head's up.

We have used lots of those drive for Bridgeport cnc machine replacements and have never seen a bad one, it sounds like it was a manufacturing problem or someone had used it as a parts drive and it was sold not knowing it was missing some connections, we have often taken parts from a drive to rebuild another drive needing repairs.
