It came with Pul/Dir by default. As long as your motor is permanent magnet type it should be ok.

Some further emails with sales at JMC have clarified this a bit.

It's a 1000 line incremental encoder with quadrature encoding for 4000 CPR. Same as is on most of the Leadshine closed loop steppers.

Still have not made a decision.
