Hi,
I experimented running an AC servo with a vector capable VFD. It worked OK.
You can't use it for position control but you could use it as a spindle motor. The ratio of minimum speed to
maximum speed is limited to about 10:1. Not withstanding those limitations it works.
If you want position control then you need a genuine servo drive.
To be honest mixing and matching servos and drives is likely to be problematic. Al-the-Man and mactec54 have way more experience
and I would leave that to them. I bought a second hand 1.8kW AC Allen Bradley servo and matching drive for $600. It performs superbly
despite not being the latest generation model.
Delta, a Taiwanese company make great servos including on their latest models 24 bit absolute multi turn encoders.
DMM is a Canadian company manufacturing in China who produce good quality servos and drives at very good prices.
I suspect either of these companies could sell you a servo AND matching drive for less than you could get a drive for your Seimens servos.
There is still a learning curve to get MATCHING servos and Drives to work let alone trying to program a drive from a different manufacturer!
