Hi i was just wondering if, it is possible to use the Mach 3 supported by the raspberry pi to operate a router cnc. I know this might be a stupid question (and i think it is) but a friend of mine told me that it is possible. I don't really know what to tell him, but i imagine that IF it is possible the movements of the CNC would jerk constantly. Can anyone anyone give me a feedback of what is the reality?

The Raspberry PI is a computer, the question is how do you hook it up!
We have a couple options here, to start you can connect the Raspberry PI to Arduino and load GRBL, connect the Drivers to the Arduino and start sending packets from Raspberry to Arduino using Octoprint or software you wrote as machine software.
Alternately you can use the GPIO pins and connect to a DB25 controller, you'll still need machine software like Linux CNC but at least you won't have to worry about firmware (GRBL), some people are running EMC on the PI.

So I'm super green. I have experience running CNC machines/robots but never designing drives & motion control. What is ESS? I've got a pi ordered (mostly to play with/learn) but was wondering if I could build a CNC plasma table and use the Pi for motion control.
Where would I read about the Pi being used for such projects?
ESS is Ethernet smooth stepper. My guess is Linux cnc sub forum would be the place if anyone is knowledgeable. I think there is a sub forum for that..

How about running Universal Gcode Sender on Pi and have it talking to Arduino running grbl?
