Default Is MK3 a “drop in” replacement for MK1?

I have a MK1 board that I would like to replace with the MK3/4. It is running a small cnc engraver/router. Can I use all the other boards with the MK3?
Also, does the board include the PlanetCNC TNG license or do I have to buy that separately?
    Thanks, Paul

What do you mean with "all other boards "? Do you use such engraver? https://planet-cnc.com/replacing-chi...rv-controller/

License is a separate purchase and it is not included with controller.

Hi Planet, the controller in your link is exactly the one I have!
So, I can replace the Chinese junk with your MK3. But, I also have to buy the TNG license? Will your MK3 board work with LinuxCNC?

    TNG is software.

    MK3 board series is hardware.

    Both are required to work.

If somehow you break the MK3 hardware, then you just purchase the hardware again, not the software.

    Thank you PlanetCNC and harryn.
Planet, yes, that is the unit i have. I want to take out the MK1 clone and replace it with your MK3/4 but keep the other boards (stepper drivers and power supply?).

Sure you can keep the PSU and stepper drivers. Would you mind posting some photos of your stepper drivers and PSU?
