machine requirements for universal gcode sender

I had this old laptop running UGS for my DIY cnc router. Was working good but now I think the video card crapped out as it will not send video to its display or a connected display. So, what are your experiences with what UGS needs to run well?
I have a separate computer that I do my CAD and CAM on so all it needs to run is UGS and the GRBL IDE and of course JAVA and netbeans.
